The Hotel Inglaterra opened its doors in 1875. Since then it has been one of the most popular hotels for those who live in the heart of Havana. It is historically famous for some of its past guests which include prominent figures such as José Martí and acclaimed dancer Anna Pavlova.
Its lively and dynamic café located on the outdoor terrace, the Gran Café El Louvre, has welcomed musicians, travelers, poets, professors, and visitors of all kinds for more than a century. The Café is the ideal location to sit on a cast iron chair and enjoy an hour (or three) of live music while overlooking the streets.
Although the Hotel’s name is Inglaterra, which translates to England, this hotel is a fusion of various cultural influences. The El Colonial Restaurant, where breakfast is served, is set in neoclassical style, and is opposite to the horseshoe-shaped reception area. On the left, the Café Bar La Sevillana, is another attractive place to spend an hour or two. This entire section is attractively covered with tiles from Seville that are distinguished by magnificent drawings and colors. These are complemented by decorative carved arches and moldings. Some may say this area feels like out of Morocco.
Beyond the ground floor, a real treat awaits on the roof of the hotel. The terrace on the roof of the Inglaterra, with its bar and grill, offers one of the best experiences in Havana. During the day, you can enjoy the jacuzzi and the sun loungers on the solarium. At night, it is ideal to have cocktails accompanied by lively music. It goes without saying that the view from here is spectacular.
